JULY HIGHLIGHTS

This July, Maune Contemporary presents Sundials, a group exhibition inspired by the sundial and its relationship to time, nature, and human design. Moving between built environments and the natural world, the exhibition considers how architecture, interiors, landscapes, flowers, animals, and the human body give visible form to systems of order, duration, and transformation.

Below, explore highlights from Sundials, on view online from July 14 through August 15, along with a preview of an upcoming Artsy viewing room featuring new works by Alex Katz in celebration of the artist’s 99th birthday on July 24, 2026.

Alex Katz, Dancer 3 on Rod, 2022

Maune Contemporary is pleased to present Sundials, a group exhibition exploring how time, space, and structure become visible across natural and human-made environments. A sundial gives physical form to the passage of time, using a fixed structure and the changing position of the sun to create a moving shadow. Taking this relationship between human design and natural cycles as its point of departure, the exhibition brings together interiors, landscapes, figures, and abstractions that reflect different systems of rhythm, proportion, growth, and change. Together, the works consider how people attempt to measure and organize the world while remaining subject to the larger forces of nature, memory, and perception.

Sundials features work by Veomancha, Ugo Rondinone, Alex Katz, Nicole Wittenberg, Alberto Murillo, Gavin Rain, Andy Burgess, Tyrone Lane, Carlos Rolón, Justin Lyons, Donald Sultan, Kenny Scharf, Petra Rös-Nickel, Susumu Kamijo, Ross Bleckner, Katherine Bernhardt, Mary Heilmann, Esteban Ocampo-Giraldo, and Caio Fonseca.
