Javier Martin
Javier Martin (b. 1985) is a Spanish multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans painting, collage, sculpture, installation, performance, and video, using familiar images and materials to examine perception, beauty, consumer culture, power, and contemporary social behavior. Born in Spain, Martin began painting at an early age and developed his practice independently, drawing heavily from travel and extended periods living and working across Europe, Asia, and the United States. Central to his work is his ongoing Blindness series, in which the eyes of idealized figures are obscured by painted gestures, neon light, or other interventions, transforming images associated with beauty and desire into meditations on visibility, conformity, and the ways contemporary culture shapes perception. The series grew from Martin’s observations of the contrast between glossy advertising imagery and the urban environments in which it appears, combining photography, painting, collage, and light to disrupt the apparent perfection of commercial images. Over time, he has expanded these ideas into immersive installations and performance works that encourage viewers to confront their own forms of “blindness” and question systems of consumption, truth, and representation. Martin has exhibited internationally, including solo museum exhibitions at Seoul Museum and Koo House Museum, and his work has been presented throughout New York, Miami, Madrid, Hong Kong, Seoul, Tokyo, and other international art centers.
