Nick Veasey

Nick Veasey (b. 1962) is a British artist known for using X-ray technology to create striking images that reveal the hidden structures of people, objects, machines, and clothing. Working at the intersection of art, science, and photography, Veasey uses radiography to look beyond surface appearances and expose the intricate internal construction of his subjects, transforming everyday objects into images that are simultaneously analytical and visually seductive. His practice reflects a broader interest in perception, superficiality, and the desire to understand what lies beneath the visible world, with X-ray technology serving as both a technical process and a metaphor for seeing beyond appearances. Veasey has applied this approach to subjects ranging from flowers and fashion to automobiles, machinery, and the human body, continually expanding the scale and complexity of what can be examined through radiography. He has collaborated with the Victoria and Albert Museum to create X-ray studies of historic garments from its fashion collection, and his work has been the subject of major international exhibitions, including the retrospective Inside Out at Fotografiska Stockholm. His work is held in museum collections including the Victoria and Albert Museum, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology. Veasey lives and works in Kent, England.
