Sarah Giannobile
Sarah Giannobile (b. 1975) is an American abstract painter whose lyrical compositions explore the intersection of memory, the subconscious, nature, and invented symbolism. Born in Park Ridge, Illinois, and based in St. Louis, Missouri, Giannobile has developed a distinctive visual language of layered lines, gestural marks, and recurring organic forms that often suggest aerial views, imagined landscapes, gardens, and other elusive or dreamlike spaces. Her paintings emerge through an intuitive process in which marks are accumulated, obscured, and rediscovered, allowing imagery to develop gradually rather than according to a predetermined composition. Dreams and memories of past experiences serve as important points of departure, while references to vines, flowers, insects, and interconnected natural forms bring a sense of growth and movement to the work. Giannobile earned her BFA from Webster University and both her MA and MFA from Fontbonne University, and later received a scholarship to study at Anderson Ranch Arts Center with artist William Christenberry. Her work has been exhibited in solo and group presentations throughout the United States, including exhibitions with Lanoue Gallery, Arden + White Gallery, and the Lambert Art & Culture Program at St. Louis Lambert International Airport. She lives and works in St. Louis, Missouri.
