Plastic Jesus
Plastic Jesus is a British-born, Los Angeles-based street artist known for provocative stencil work, sculpture, and public installations that use humor, irony, and visual contradiction to examine politics, celebrity culture, consumerism, and contemporary social behavior. Before turning his attention fully to art, he spent more than two decades working as a photojournalist, an experience that continues to inform the immediacy and topical nature of his practice. Working within the tradition of guerrilla street art, Plastic Jesus often places unexpected objects, signs, and interventions directly into public space, transforming familiar visual language into pointed cultural commentary. His broader practice spans painting, printmaking, sculpture, and installation, frequently using scale, parody, and recognizable symbols to encourage viewers to reconsider subjects that are easily normalized or overlooked. Rather than presenting his work as revolutionary, Plastic Jesus has described his approach as a way of drawing attention to the less visible or uncomfortable corners of contemporary society. His work has been widely featured in international media, and the Smithsonian Institution has also featured his art. Collectors of his work include Donald J. Trump, Miley Cyrus, Tommy and Dee Hilfiger, the Kardashians, Moby, Samir Modi, Tommy Lee, Kid Rock, Anna Wintour, James Corden, Corey Taylor, and Harry Styles. Plastic Jesus lives and works in Los Angeles, California.
